Astrocytoma presenting with apnea and sinus arrest.

چکیده
Although some vascular lesions of the central nervous system are known to cause abnormalities in the control of breathing, association between astrocytoma and combined cardiorespiratory abnormalities in the adult is distinctly unusual. We present a case of a 52-year-old man whose only features of astrocytoma consisted of episodes of apnea and sinus arrest followed by prolonged alveolar hypoventilation. These abnormalities resolved after resection of the tumor. We conclude that in patients presenting with respiratory and sinus arrest, the search for a cause should not be limited to the cardiac and pulmonary systems, but it must include a possibility of a brain tumor.

Concurrent atrioventricular block, sinus arrest and pneumothorax in a dog secondary to vehicle accident
In human several kinds of electrocardiographic findings have been reported in association with pneumothorax such as decreased and/or alternating QRS amplitude (electrical alternans). However, electrocardiographic changes concurrent with pneumothorax have rarely been discussed in veterinary literature. A 3-year-old male crossbreed dog was presented with a history of car accident. Thoracic au...
متن کاملCardiac and respiratory standstill during sleep.
An obese man, with an attack of myocardial ischaemia, developed arrhythmias only when he was asleep. Episodes of sinus bradycardia occurred progressing to arterioventricular block and sinus arrest. These changes in the cardiac rhythm coincided with periods of sleep apnoea.
متن کاملRare Case of Rapidly Worsening REM Sleep Induced Bradycardia
Sinoatrial arrest also known as sinus pause occurs when sinoatrial node of the heart transiently ceases to generate the electrical impulse necessary for the myocardium to contract. It may last from 2.0 seconds to several minutes. Etiologies of sinoatrial arrest can be complex and heterogeneous. During rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, sinus arrests unrelated to apnea or hypopnea are very rare and...
متن کاملSleep apnea and severe bradyarrhythmia – an alternative treatment option: a case report
INTRODUCTION Sinus arrest, atrio-ventricular block, supraventricular, and ventricular arrhythmias have been reported in patients with sleep apnea syndrome. The arrhythmias usually occur during sleep and contribute to the cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and the treatment of sleep apnea usually results in the resolution of the brady- arrhythmias. Weight loss, continuous positive airway pr...
متن کاملEmergent use of an MRI-conditional external pacemaker in a patient with sinus arrest facilitating diagnosis of a temporal lobe neoplasm
This report describes the case of a 66-year-old previously healthy man admitted to our institution for evaluation of new-onset syncope. The patient had witnessed seizures after admission associated with multiple periods of asystole on telemetry. A temporary pacemaker was emergently placed prior to transfer to the cardiac intensive care unit. An electroencephalogram (EEG) demonstrated a seizure ...
